समय से पहले मौत का सामान साबित हो रहा है वोदका (वोडका )रूसियों 

के लिए।जो लोग जमके सप्ताह भर वोडका गटकते हैं उनके लिए मृत्यु का जोखिम एक दम से बढ़ जाता है। यह नतीज़े एक दस साला अध्ययन से निकले हैं। तकरीबन डेढ़ लाख रुसी लोगों के पीने की आदत पे १९९९ -२०१० तक नज़र टिकाये रहने के बाद पता चला है,जो लोग सप्ताह भर में आधा लीटर वोडका की तीन या उससे ज्यादा बोतल गटक लेते थे उनके लिए ५५ साल से पहले ही मौत में मुंह चले जाने का ख़तरा ३५ % बढ़ गया था।इस अध्ययन के दरमियान ही ८ ,००० रूसियों के मौत हो गई थी।  

कुलमिलाकर ५५ साला लोगों में से एक चौथाई की मृत्यु हो जाती है जिसका कारण एल्कोहल ही बनता है जबकि यूनाइटिड किंडम के लिए यह आंकड़ा ७ % तथा अमरीका के लिए १% रहा है। 

भले फिनलैंड और पोलैण्ड के लोग भी बे -तहाशा पीते हैं लेकिन रूसियों के मुकाबले उनमें असमय मृत्यु का जोखिम उतना नहीं मिला है। हेवी ड्रिंकिग का निवाला रुसी महिला भी बन रही हैं लेकिन उनके मामलों में अभी कोई पुख्ता आंकड़े नहीं जुटाए जा सके हैं। 

विज्ञान पत्रिका लांसेट मेडिकल जर्नल में यह अध्ययन प्रकाशित हुआ है। 

अध्ययन में रुसी कैंसर सेंटर ,मास्को ,ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी ,यू. के.  तथा कैंसर शोध ,फ्रांस से ताल्लुक रखने वाली विश्व -स्वास्थ्य संगठन एजेंसी के शोध करता शामिल रहे हैं।    

Vodka ‘killing’ Russian men early

LONDON: Russia's love for vodka is well-known. Scientists have now found that the price Russia is paying for it is also colossal. A first-ofits-kind study has now confirmed that vodka is the major cause of the extraordinarily-high risk of early death in Russian men. The study, published in medical journal The Lancet, says 25% of Russian men die before they are 55 and that most of these deaths are attributable to alcohol consumption. This figure compares to 7% in the UK and less than 1% in the US. 

Researchers from the Russian Cancer Centre in Moscow, Oxford University in the UK and the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer in France, tracked about 151,000 adult men in the Russian cities of Barnaul, Byisk and Tomsk from 1999 to 2010. The study asked 151,000 people how much vodka they drank, then followed them for up to a decade, during which 8,000 died. 

The study shows that Russian men who drink three or more bottles of vodka a week are 35% more likely to go to an early grave than those who consume less than one. 

"Russian death rates have fluctuated wildly over the past 30 years as alcohol restrictions and social stability varied under Presidents Gorbachev, Yeltsin, and Putin, and the main thing driving these wild fluctuations in death was vodka. This has been shown in retrospective studies, and now we've confirmed it in a big, reliable prospective study," said co-author professor Sir Richard Peto from the University of Oxford. 

Under Mikhail Gorbachev's 1985 alcohol restrictions, liquor consumption fell by around 25% and so did the death rates. When communism collapsed, alcohol consumption went up steeply and so did the death rates. More recently , since the 2006 Russian alcohol policy reforms, the consumption of spirits has fallen by about a third and so has the risk of death before age 55. The excess mortality among heavy drinkers was mainly from alcohol poisoning, accidents, violence, suicide, and particular category of diseases.

Vodka Is Killing Russian Men, Report Says

Russian men who drink large amounts of vodka run an “extraordinarily high” risk of early death, according to a new study based on research conducted over the course of a decade.

From 1999 to 2010, researchers tracked more than 150,000 adult men in three Russian cities. The researchers found the results alarming. Among the men who said that they drank three or more half-liter bottles of vodka per week, the risk of dying before age 55 was 35 percent. Overall, a quarter of Russian men die before age 55, while 7 percent of men in the United Kingdomand 1 percent of men in the United States die before that age.

“The rate of men dying prematurely in Russia is totally out of line with the rest of Europe,” Sir Richard Peto of Oxford University, the lead researcher in the study, told the AP. “There’s also a heavy drinking culture in Finland and Poland but they still have nothing like Russia’s risk of death.”

Peto said that there was evidence of a high toll from heavy drinking among Russian women, but that there is not enough data to draw broad conclusions.
